Having had a particular interest in IT security, the reasons for being interested in working for Vistorm are obvious. Being presented with the opportunity to join the graduate training programme was too good to turn down, and 4 years later can certainly say I made the correct decision in joining the company. Vistorm is a company built on a foundation of solid technical knowledge and expertise. The people here are as good an educational tool as any book or training course, and as such the capacity to learn from everyone is immense.

I joined the company as a Graduate Technical Support Engineer. The graduate programme lasted 2 years, split into 6 monthly chunks which carried their own targets followed by a review. I was expected to develop technical skills and competencies, as well as develop certain working behaviours, stepping up a level every 6 months. Training courses were provided, both internal and external, and I was encouraged to gain professional certifications.

Many graduate schemes are simply training programmes where you spend time training, then after 2 years get a job in one of the areas you trained in. Not at Vistorm. Here you begin working and adding value to the team from day one. This helps you to understand and tailor your training around your direct needs, ensuring that you develop skills in the areas that help you in your day to day role.

Whilst training, I was performing a support role within the Security Support team, taking support requests from customers based all over the world on technologies such as firewalls, VPN's and content filtering software but to name a few. I was initially expected to work on small issues, but as my experience and training grew, I was able to gradually progress onto more diverse and complicated problems. I have found this role to be both interesting and rewarding, where every problem is a challenge, and you rarely get two problems that are the same.

After completing my 2 year programme, I was presented with the opportunity to spend a year seconded to one of our largest customers, a role which helped further my understanding of the products and technologies which I had been trained in, as well as develop my personal and professional skills further. Since my return, I have progressed to become a senior member of the 24/7 support team, which demonstrated Vistorm's commitment to progression, even after the graduate scheme.

The company has an ongoing commitment to training all staff, whether they are graduates or not. New technologies and products are being released all of the time, and the company is forthcoming in ensuring that all their staff are trained in the latest cutting edge technologies.

In my opinion, Vistorm is the perfect place to learn, develop and progress.
